1. Would you call yourself an enthusiast, obsessive, semi-pro or professional poker player?

I guess I would be considered semi-pro. I don’t have a “real” job, and poker primarily pays the bills, but I do have my hands in some other ventures. I do not play poker 10 hours a day–more like 5.

-a) How long have you played professionally, and what is your chosen game?

4 years, 200NL and am dabbling a bit with Omaha 100NL

-b) What has been the highlight of your poker playing career?

Well, I don’t have any big tournament stories because I play cash games, but the day I was able to give up my big corporate life to work for myself was a biggie–that was about 4 years ago.

2. Is there any female player playing today that you see as an ambassador to ladies poker?

I think Vanessa Rousso oozes class, so I would pick her.

3. Do you see there being any difference between men and women playing poker?

I think there used to be a big difference, mainly in aggression and deceptiveness. However, I think that trend is getting less and less culpable as time goes on.

4. Big tournaments like the WSOP have recently been under attack for their commercialization of the game. Of the major poker tournaments today like the EPT, WPT and WSOP which are the best?

Since I don’t play them, my answer here is purely speculative. I would think the EPT might be best because it is not quite as commercial as the others mentioned.

5. What would you say are the biggest differences between online and live poker?

Ah, well—I play 1000+ hands an hour online, and maybe 30 live. I get to see so many more situations and make reads/decisions on a lot more hands. Frankly, I find live play kind of boring.

-a) Where is your favourite place to play live poker? Why?

Bellagio for the bigger games (lots of tourists spewing money) and the Fitz for the very friendly atmosphere.

-b) Where is your favourite place to play online poker? Why?

I play almost exclusively at Full Tilt. I think the small/mid-stakes cash games are good and I have an excellent rakeback deal with them.

6. From your perspective do you think such a big deal should be made about the men entering the ladies event at the WSOP?

No I don’t. I really don’t see a need for the gender division in poker at all. Its not like there is any physical strength involved in poker so men really do not have any advantage. By dividing tournaments like that, we are kind of stating that we cannot compete with the guys, which I think is hogwash.

7. Vanessa Rousso, Liv Bovree – both have won major EPT tournaments in recent history. If you could win any single event which would it be?

Since I love Latin America, maybe an LAPT event.

8. And who would you want to play Heads-up on the final table?

Phil Helmuth…just to hear him whine.

9. Cash games are a different breed of poker. Puggy Pearson said the real value was in playing limit Holdem, others have said that Omaha offers the best value and others say NL Holdem with the right bankroll. In your opinion where is the money on the cash tables?

I am doing ok on NLH tables, but I can see the logic in saying the value is in Omaha right now. There is so much information out there now about playing NLH that you have to be super good to have any sort of an edge. Omaha is still wide open as far as definitive information.

10. Do you still see yourself playing poker in ten years? If yes, where would you hope to be?

Yes, I will probably be doing exactly what I’m doing right now–playing and loving poker and living life to the fullest.

11. Would you stop or encourage your daughter to become a professional poker player? Why?

I would neither encourage or discourage–I would simply support anything she wanted to do.
