Bodog leaving the US

The changes to the online gaming restrictions in the US at the moment, are taking the iGaming industry by storm and in a way that has massive implementations for gaming in general. The latest casualty to be added to the list is the mighty Bodog online entertainment and gambling brand, Bodog.com.

The announcement that they will no longer accept or support players in the US hasn’t come as a shock and in the light of the Poker Indictments and restrictions placed on none US run and owned gaming companies means that this was always going to be an action in process. The decision from Bodog takes effect as of the 31st December 2011. Basically all US based players will no longer be allowed to access or play on Bodog.eu or any other Bodog branded website.

This however is not an end for Bodog, as it’s Bodog UK licensee had been granted remote and non-remote gaming licenses by the UK Gambling Commission, which in short means that the Bodog brand is alive and kicking, just not for the US.

A statement from Bodog read “In order to ensure the brand’s expansion is not affected by negative perceptions both in the UK and elsewhere in emerging markets such as Asia where Bodog88.com is already successful, a decision has been made to withdraw the Bodog brand from the US market at the end of 2011.This decision presents a fresh direction for BodogBrand.com as we look to create a new chapter in our history. The move will enable the Bodog brand to continue its growth and expansion and maintain its position as the world’s largest gaming brand.”

There is no doubt that the closure of the US market for European iGaming sites has hit hard, but they will bounce back and with the European market having all the attention of the worlds Poker sites, the time for better Poker and greater offers is not too far away. Stay tuned.

Virgin Games stops play in Poland

The wind of change is blowing through the gaming industry and changes are being made that are bound to start having an impact on the way that the online gaming community grows. The latest change to the system is going to affect all Polish customers to Virgin Games.

In a Legal update issued by Virgin Games this week, the announcement was made that Virgin Games no longer accept Polish players. “Due to recent changes in Polish regulation regarding online gaming, we regret to inform you that Virgin Games has now stopped new registrations from Polish residents and will be closing all Polish held accounts as of August 5th, 2011. After this date players will no longer be able to access their Virgin Games account”.

Any players that still have funds in their account should log-in and request a withdrawal. If this is not done before the 5th August regardless of reason, then Virgin Games will transfer any outstanding funds to the payment method registered with them.

This decision at Virgin Games does not affect play for either the UK or main land Europe. If there is a problem logging into your Virgin Games account, then contact the support team and they will let you know what if anything is needed.

FullTilt Poker, death of a giant?

What is happening with one of the biggest names in Poker? FullTilt Poker is in serious trouble and the rumours are running riot that there is no bounce back possible and that the recent events of the indictments in the US and the fact that they have had their operations licence suspended have taken its toll on one of Pokers greats.

With wide spread reports that after the gaming licence in Alderney had been suspended, the company lapsed into serious payment issues. Add that to the fact that they only really concentrated on the US market leaving the European market dangerously open to other sites to control and occupy means that their come back if possible is going to be tough.

What isn’t helping FullTilt at the moment is the lack of control that they have over new players or exisiting players. Go to their site now and all you get is a message that greets you saying “System Update. We apologise but the system is currently down. Please check back later. Please direct all enquiries to support@fulltiltpoker.com”. Unfortunately this is a message that just isn’t going away, so what is happening at FullTilt?

The trouble started for FullTilt when their license was suspended in June by the AGCC after it accused the site of “operating contrary to Alderney legislation”. In a statement issued by the Alderney Gaming Control Commission on the 29th June, it explained their reasons why. “The decision to suspend these licenses follows a special investigation prompted by the indictments unsealed by US Attorney General’s Office in the Southern District of New York on 15th April 2011”.

There’s no denying that there are dark days ahead for the Poker site and that the bigger brands that normally compete with FullTilt have set their sights on the FullTilt players. The exodus has already started, but can FullTilt get their licence back and if so, are they still able to compete in a European poker market that is already full with brands that have had a steady European following for some years. PokerStars managed to get this issue under control quick enough, but can FullTilt?

The hearing into the suspension of FullTilt’s operating licence at London’s Park Plaza Victoria Hotel is set for the 26th July. This meeting is to assess the situation and hopefully discuss the re-issuing of FullTilt’s gaming license. The bookies have already predicted that the last operating day of FullTilt will be the 27th July, but I am not so sure. With a brand like FullTilt and the following that they have, a comeback must be possible, so watch this space and stay tuned for the continuation of this very sad tale.
