Poker Market to be one Third Women by 2011; Operators are gearing up
Female poker players are set to grow to a third of real money poker players by 2011 and are a key focus for operators in Europe, new research has revealed. The study by Poker Players Research (PPR), a market research company specialising in the poker industry, shows the growing importance of women in the poker market. PPR spokesman Glenn Flackett confirmed that female participation and activity were now one of the main areas of enquiry among poker sites using his survey data, which is based on 13,000 regular poker players across the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. “Female growth is very important, and is now one of the main issues,” Flackett said. The PPR research shows that a quarter of real money poker players are women, but that the average female’s rake per session is currently half that of men due to lower stakes and shorter sessions on the tables.
Unibet recently added Maria Poker to its Maria Bingo platform and Maria Nova social networking site. Maria Bingo's marketing manager for western Europe, Linda Niskanen, said that the industry’s lack of investment on attracting female poker players comes down to two factors. “Women tend to favour games which are more casual such as solitaire, where you can log in and out. Poker takes more involvement, as illustrated by the many study sites," she said. "Also, people find out a lot from friends, and a higher percentage of men have experience of a poker site. Females are more reliant on the website to provide the connection and help.”
The Maria Poker website has been specifically designed to give females “a lower threshold to enter the poker playing community”, Niskanen added. PokerStars is poised to follow Unibet’s lead in targeting female poker players more aggressively, recruiting someone specifically for the task.

Aisling Collins Wins PartyPoker Women’s World Open II
UK's Aisling collins emerged victorious from the talented all-female field that turned out for the third PartyPoker Women’s World Open. Collins pocketed $50,000 for her efforts and defeated Kim Wooka heads-up.
Collins owned nearly a 2:1 chip advantage over Wooka when heads-up play began in the PartyPoker Women’s World Open III. The ending of the live tournament in London occurred when blinds were 10,000-20,000. Collins popped the action to 70,000 pre-flop with J-5 of diamonds and was called by Wooka, who held Q-10. The flop came J-K-9 with two diamonds, giving Wooka the stone cold nuts and Collins a flush draw. The two got it all-in and, sure enough, a diamond hit on the turn, propelling Collins to victory.
The tournament featured 36 of the top female poker players on the planet. In addition, each of the runner-ups participated in a sit and go, with the winner rounding out the seven-handed final table.

Poker Market to be one Third Women by 2011; Operators are gearing up
Female poker players are set to grow to a third of real money poker players by 2011 and are a key focus for operators in Europe, new research has revealed. The study by Poker Players Research (PPR), a market research company specialising in the poker industry, shows the growing importance of women in the poker market. PPR spokesman Glenn Flackett confirmed that female participation and activity were now one of the main areas of enquiry among poker sites using his survey data, which is based on 13,000 regular poker players across the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. “Female growth is very important, and is now one of the main issues,” Flackett said. The PPR research shows that a quarter of real money poker players are women, but that the average female’s rake per session is currently half that of men due to lower stakes and shorter sessions on the tables.
Unibet recently added Maria Poker to its Maria Bingo platform and Maria Nova social networking site. Maria Bingo's marketing manager for western Europe, Linda Niskanen, said that the industry’s lack of investment on attracting female poker players comes down to two factors. “Women tend to favour games which are more casual such as solitaire, where you can log in and out. Poker takes more involvement, as illustrated by the many study sites," she said. "Also, people find out a lot from friends, and a higher percentage of men have experience of a poker site. Females are more reliant on the website to provide the connection and help.”
The Maria Poker website has been specifically designed to give females “a lower threshold to enter the poker playing community”, Niskanen added. PokerStars is poised to follow Unibet’s lead in targeting female poker players more aggressively, recruiting someone specifically for the task.

Aisling Collins Wins PartyPoker Women’s World Open II
UK's Aisling collins emerged victorious from the talented all-female field that turned out for the third PartyPoker Women’s World Open. Collins pocketed $50,000 for her efforts and defeated Kim Wooka heads-up.
Collins owned nearly a 2:1 chip advantage over Wooka when heads-up play began in the PartyPoker Women’s World Open III. The ending of the live tournament in London occurred when blinds were 10,000-20,000. Collins popped the action to 70,000 pre-flop with J-5 of diamonds and was called by Wooka, who held Q-10. The flop came J-K-9 with two diamonds, giving Wooka the stone cold nuts and Collins a flush draw. The two got it all-in and, sure enough, a diamond hit on the turn, propelling Collins to victory.
The tournament featured 36 of the top female poker players on the planet. In addition, each of the runner-ups participated in a sit and go, with the winner rounding out the seven-handed final table.
